Australian Defence Force at the Clipsal 500

27 February 2008

The Australian Defence Force showed off some its finest capabilities during the Clipsal 500.

Kids were able to wear a helmet, play noughts and crosses with Navy divers in the dive tank or pretend to drive an Army vehicle.

The ground display will once again gave spectators the opportunity to see what some of the local ADF units provide to the defence of Australia and its interests.

The hands-on approach gave race-goers the opportunity to get up close and personal with experienced operators and their specialist military equipment.

On display were ASLAV and Bushmaster vehicles, missile systems, weapons, aircrew equipment, a Navy RHIB, communication systems, Defence Force recruiters and much more.

And to celebrate Clipsal 500 Adelaide’s 10 years of racing, four RAAF F/A-18 Hornets provided a spell-binding formation air display that has never been seen before at a sporting event.

Adding to the air display was an AP-3C Orion from RAAF Base Edinburgh.

The popular Armygeddon street machine was also back, along with the Royal Australian Navy Band - SA detachment's rock band.
