Arunta Rescues Badly Injured French Sailor
The Royal Australian Navy frigate HMAS Arunta sailed from HMAS Stirling, Western Australia in response to a distress call from a French solo Yachtsman in the Southern Ocean 800 nautical miles south west off the coast of Western Australia. Yann Elies, was participating in the Vendee Globe, Round the World Yacht Race, on board his sixty foot mono hull, single mast vessel 'Generali,' when he was injured and sent out a distress call to which the Royal Australian Navy responded.
