Photographic exhibition on the Australian involvement on the Western Front during World War I
24 April 2008
The Australian Embassy in Paris played host to a photographic exhibition on the Australian involvement on the Western Front during World War I. The images were provided by the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. The exhibition was opened by the Australian Ambassador to France, His Excellency David Ritchie and the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, the Honourable Alan Griffin.
This year, an Australian Defence Force contingent from Australia’s Federation Guard (AFG) supported by members from the Australian Army Band will provide ceremonial guards for services commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux.
Villers-Bretonneux was the most important of a series of battles fought by Australians that resisted German attacks on the Somme in the first half of 1918.
