Navy launches 'webisodes' at HMAS Creswell

16 April 2008

NEOC 38 follows real life trainees completing their first six weeks of the Navy’s New Entry Officers Course. Filmed at the Royal Australian Naval College and surrounding areas of Jervis Bay NSW, it is a rare and detailed insight into the life of people training to become officers in the Navy.

‘Webisodes’ are episodes or mini movies, five to eight minutes in length, hosted on the Defencejobs website. Each of the five webisodes has a theme whether it be the first week of training, a typical day or seamanship. Each webisode sits in its own webpage which contains additional content such as images, video footage and text further detailing the Navy jargon, activities and events that appear in the webisodes. Each page also features one of the trainees profiling their job, where they are from, their nickname and where they see themselves in 10 years time.

The creative approach uses a number of techniques to create a compelling, documentary style program. The product depicts true to life training activities, focussing on the professional and personal development of the trainees, the traditional aspects of military training and the fun times such as mateship, lifestyle, the great facilities and humour. The footage captures the variety of the training curriculum juxtaposing it with vox pop and scripted interviews capturing times of elation, stress or repose.
