12 September 2007

Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft forces practiced joint Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations in support of Exercise Submarine Commanders Command Course 2007 (SCC07).

The exercise trained prospective United States Navy (USN) and Royal Australian Navy (RAN) submarine commanding officers and crews in ASW warfighting and weapon firing proficiency.

The exercise also aimed to enhance interoperability with USN, RAN, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and Canadian Forces (CF) in a multilateral exercise environment by fostering the development of improved ASW techniques and tactics combined with assets.

Participating assets included two RAAF AP-3C Orions, two USN P-3C Orions, a CF CP-140 Aurora aircraft, HMAS Rankin, HMAS Adelaide, HMAS Ballarat, HMAS Sirius, a USN Los Angeles-class submarine, along with aircrew, maintenance and support personnel.

SCC07 was hosted from RAAF Base Pearce and conducted in the Western Australian Exercise Area (WAXA) airspace from 18-26 August 2007.
