Fallen SASR soldier returns home

31 October 2007

In a sombre Ramp Ceremony, the body of Sergeant Matthew Locke, the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) soldier fatally wounded in Afghanistan last week, was returned home to Perth.

Recipient of the Medal for Gallantry, Sergeant Locke was carried from the C-130 Hercules that brought him home by his mates currently serving with the SASR.

On hand to receive him was a small gathering including his family, colleagues, the Commander of Australian Special Forces Major General Mike Hindmarsh and the Chief of Army Lieutenant General Peter Leahy.

A private funeral service will be held for Sergeant Locke celebrating his life and the career that he loved.
