Darwin soldiers raise significant sum for Darwin Hospital

Gunners from the Army’s 8th/12th Medium Regiment have completed their 2007 Gunner Bear Fundraising Appeal, attracting donations totalling $48,000.
The appeal ran over approximately two weeks and culminated in a 'gun push' with a two-tonne 105mm Howitzer gun through the streets of Darwin. Starting-off from the Darwin Cenotaph on the Esplanade with a police escort, it took the soldiers six hours to complete the 22 kilometres in hot and humid conditions.
Commander 1 Brigade, Brigadier Craig Orme joined the gunners for the duration of the push, who received donations and plenty of support from passing motorists and residents along the route.
At the conclusion of the push, Gunner Bear was auctioned off for $2000. All funds from this year's appeal will go towards the provision of intensive care cots and specialist monitoring equipment for the RDH Special Care Nursery.
