Gunner Bear fundraising appeal

15 October 2007

The Army's 8/12 Medium Regiment's 2007 Gunner Bear Fundraising Appeal has begun.

Throughout the month of October, soldiers from the regiment will be collecting donations at various sites throughout Darwin to raise money for sick kids in the Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH). In particular, the provision of intensive care cots and specialist monitoring equipment for the Special Care Nursery at RDH is the aim of this year's fundraising appeal.

Gunner Bear raised in excess of $50,000 last year due to the support of the public. The regiment is on its way to reaching the 2007 target of $75,000 with a number of corporate sponsors already making generous donations including Paspaley Pearls, Defence Housing Australia, Thales, general Dynamics, Energy Resources Australia and Battery World Darwin.

The culmination of the fundraising appeal will be a 22km "Gun Push" with a 105mm Hamel Gun around Darwin on 27 October starting at the Darwin Cenotaph on the Esplanade and finishing at the Royal Darwin Hospital. Teams of soldiers will take it in turns to push the gun with their mascot, Gunner Bear, sitting astride the barrel. To make a donation or for more information contact Major Steve Mott, ph: 0407 408 086.
