Last flight for 'City of Sydney' Boeing 707

01 November 2007

On 31 October 2007, the Royal Australian Air Force retired its Boeing 707 A20-629 'City of Sydney' after 24 years of service.

The final task for the 'City of Sydney' 707 saw it take flight from RAAF Base Richmond to East Sale and Hobart for a series of 'touch-and-go' landings.

The 'City of Sydney' was one of two remaining B707s in service with 33 Squadron at RAAF Base Richmond.

The other B707, 'Richmond Town', is due to be retired in June 2008.

The future of Australia's air-to-air refuelling capability will be with the EADS/Airbus KC-30B Multi-Role Tanker Transport, due to enter RAAF service in early 2009.
