Norforce visits Wadeye community
18 June 2007
Soldiers from NORFORCE and Army Cadets from Darwin travelled to the indigenous community of Wadeye in the Northern Territory recently to conduct Operation Thamarrur which means "reconciliation".
During the four-day visit, the soldiers and cadets participated in activities to demonstrate the role of NORFORCE and Army Cadets and strengthen the cultural reconciliation process within the community.
A visit to the local school provided an opportunity for the community’s children to meet NORFORCE soldiers and participate in various activities such as games and camouflage face painting.
Senior NORFORCE representatives also attended a community meeting with Territory education representatives and community elders to discuss solutions to the town’s high truancy rate.
