Armygeddon at the Summernats
09 January 2007
An M1A1 Abrams tank and the Army’s street machine, Armygeddon, stood spoiler to spoiler with some of Australia’s finest vehicles at this year's Summernats in Canberra.
The two vehicles gave the public a chance to get up close and personal with some of Army’s newest, toughest kit.
Armygeddon - the six-wheeled, seven-litre, fired-up street machine - lit up the tarmac with various performances. Armygeddon is maintained and enhanced by Army technical trade trainees.
The Abrams was driven from Puckapunyal in Victoria on the new Heavy Tank Transporter, bought especially for the new tanks.
The Abrams and Armygeddon show two very different sides of the Army and demonstrate some of the employment opportunities available.
Defence Force Recruiting staff were also on hand to field enquiries and provide advice for anyone considering a career in the Australian Defence Force.
