Exercise Tigris Prelude

19 February 2007

Exercise Tigris Prelude was conducted from 7-13 Feb 07 in the Brisbane area. It provided Security Detachment Eleven (SECDET XI) Mission Rehearsal Training (MRE) which was realistic, demanding and relevant to their upcoming operation. This MRE capped off six months of intensive pre-deployment training for SECDET XI.

MREs are conducted in order to deliver a cohesive and sustainable force that is thoroughly prepared, practiced and capable of executing all expected tasks. The training is demanding and aims to replicate the conditions faced by our soldiers in Iraq.

SECDET forms part of Operation CATALYST - Australia’s contribution to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq. SECDET provides protection and escort for Australian Government personnel working in our Embassy in Baghdad. It consists of about 110 personnel and includes Australian Light Armoured Vehicles, which provide armoured mobility and protection to the force.
