Around 500 Air Force personnel and 25 aircraft have participated in a two-week air combat exercise called Exercise Arnhem Thunder 07.

Commanding Officer of No. 1 Squadron, Wing Commander Geoff Harland said that Arnhem Thunder is an important part of maintaining the Air Force's key air-to-ground strike skills.

Exercise Arnhem Thunder 07 gives aircrew the opportunity to practise advanced air-to-ground combat training skills over the Delamere Weapons Range near Katherine and the Mount Bundey Training Area. This deployment to the Northern Territory not only affords this opportunity, but it also tests each of the Squadron's procedures in deploying away from their home base.

RAAF Base Tindal hosted up to ten F/A-18 Hornets from No. 77 Squadron, RAAF Base Williamtown and six F-111 aircraft from No. 1 Squadron, RAAF Base Amberley. F/A-18 Hornets based at RAAF Base Tindal also took part in the exercise.
