Mission Rehearsal Exercise at Cultana

27 April 2007

Battle Group Tiger and the Australian Army Training Team Iraq-8 concentrated at Cultana Flats Training Area during 12 April to 5 May for the Mission Rehearsal Exercise (MRE) for the Overwatch Battle Group (West) 3 (OBG (W)-3).

The MRE was conducted by the Townsville-based Combat Training Centre Live (CTC-Live) and included two phases - Iraqi Dawn, a three-day Command Post Exercise (CPX) and Ex Iraqi Dusk, a six-day free-play exercise.

The MRE involved 550-members of OBG (W)-3 and some 600 role players from the Darwin-based 1st Brigade.

The Commanding Officer of OBG (W)-3 is Lieutenant Colonel Justin Ellwood.

The purpose of the MRE is to exercise, test and evaluate OBG (W)-3 and allow it to develop a range of templates to use in theatre.

OBG (W)-3 is an important part of Operation CATALYST, which is the ADF’s contribution to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq.
