Funeral of SAS member Corporal David O'Neil

19 April 2007

The funerals of Sergeant Craig Linacre, Corporal David O’Neil and Corporal Michael McAvoy, who were tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident in Victoria on the 9 April 2007, are being held this week in separate services.

SGT Linacre’s funeral was held in Perth on 18 April 2007.

CPL O’Neil’s funeral was held in Victoria on 19 April 2007.

CPL McAvoy’s funeral will be held in Victoria on 20 April 2007.

Major General Mike Hindmarsh, Special Operations Commander Australia, said: "The loss of any young life in circumstances such as these seems such a horrible waste; these were fine young Australians who had served their nation with great distinction and my heart goes out to their families. What is equally tragic is that all three of these soldiers survived some of the toughest combat the ADF has seen in recent years yet they died tragically in a motor vehicle accident here in Australia".
