Sea King fallen honoured in memorial service

02 April 2007

The nine Australian Defence Force (ADF) members who tragically lost their lives in the Sea King helicopter accident on 2 April 2005 have been honoured two years after the accident in a Memorial Service held in Canberra.

The Indonesian Ambassador, His Excellency Mr Teuku Mohammad Hamzah THAYEB; Secretary of Defence, Mr Nick Warner; the Chief of the Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston; the Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Russ Shalders; and the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Geoff Shepherd, joined in remembering the service and sacrifice of those fallen.

The memorial service represents an opportunity to not only pay tribute to the nine ADF members, who tragically lost their lives, but to reflect and honour the commitment and dedication of their loved ones.

There was also a small dedication held near the accident site on the Indonesian Island of Nias, where a permanent memorial now stands.
