2006 Pacific Nations Military Rugby Tournament held in Canberra

The Tournament will see four days of rugby played between six national military teams from Australia Services Rugby Union (ASRU), New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF), Tongan Defence Services (TDS), Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF), French Armed forces New Caledonia (FANC) and Royal Fiji Military Forces (RFMF).

Over many years, Australian Services Rugby Union (ASRU) has had several players who have represented the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and gone on to play for the Wallabies. Sir Edward “Weary” Dunlop represented the Wallabies prior to World War Two.

Lieutenant Greg Burrows of Navy went from ASRU to the Wallabies in the late 70’s and early 80’s and Corporal Tom Raudonikis from Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) represented Australia in both Union and League in the 70’s. BRIG Bob Brown former Wallaby fullback also played for Army Rugby Union and ASRU.

The current ASRU Head coach, Captain Angus Baker, of the Australian Army, is a former ASRU Captain and Wallabies player. Corporal Jim Williams from Army who played for ASRU in the early 90’s and went on to play for both the Brumbies and Wallabies.
