Abrams simulator at Puckapunyal

11 September 2006

The Combined Arms Training Centre and the School of Armour at Puckapunyal in Victoria hosted the official opening ceremony for the acceptance into service of the M1A1 Abrams Tank Simulation System on Tuesday, 22 August 2006.

The Abrams Simulation System includes tank driver training, which is a full motion trainer that allows for a wide variety of terrain and weather conditions to be negotiated without leaving the classroom environment. Relocatable Advanced Gunnery Training Simulation enables rigorous monitoring and analysis of training and performance of tank gunners and crew commanders.

The use of these systems offers the potential for significant savings in ammunition expenditure, running costs and a lowering of impact on the environment.

Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence The Hon. Bruce Billson, MP and Chief of Army Lieutenant General Peter Leahy attended and opened the facilities.
