26 October 2006

The Australian War Memorial records the contents of all material left in its custody for research or donation on an Interim Receipt. This is a legal document to enable depositors and the Memorial to have a detailed record of the material left in the Memorial’s custody. It sets out the terms and conditions under which the material is deposited.

A copy of the receipt is given to the depositor, one copy stays with the material and a further copy is placed on file.

The receipt also records

It enables the Memorial to track, and keep safe material entrusted to it which is important to families when they are depositing their family member’s war memorabilia.

This receipt is then a reference point for the depositor if they want to enquire after their material.

During the process, material being deposited is sometimes placed into alternative packaging as appropriate, to ensure the long term care of the items.
