Repatriation of Private Jake Kovco

Private Jacob Kovco died while serving in Operation CATALYST in the Middle East with the Australian Security Detachment, Baghdad, on 21 April 2006.

Private Kovco's body arrived in Sydney on Saturday 29 April 2006. His body was escorted by Warrant Officer ClassTwo Tim Cuming from Private Kovco's unit, the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) and was met by family members, the Minister for Defence, Dr Brendan Nelson MP, the Chief of the Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, Chief of Army , Lieutenant General Peter Leahy, and the Commanding Officer 3RAR, Lieutenant Colonel Mick Mumford, and an Honour Guard from 3RAR.

Operation CATALYST is the Australian Government commitment to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Iraq. Approximately 1400 Australian Defence Force personnel currently are deployed to the Middle East under Operation CATALYST.
