Air Force marks the 66th Commemoration of the Battle of Britain

You could have thought that there had been a major takeover of Hobart , Tasmania by Air Force on the weekend of 16/17 September. The Air Force marked the 66 th Commemoration of the Battle of Britain with a church service at St David's Cathedral Church on the Saturday, and a wreath laying service on the Sunday at the Cenotaph, Queens Domain, Hobart .

The Commemoration was attended by His Excellency the Hon William Cox, AC RFD, ED Governor of Tasmania and Honorary Air Commodore of No 29 Squadron, the Prime Minister's representative Senator Richard Colbeck, the Federal Opposition Representative Senator Carol Brown, the Right Honorable the Lord Mayor of Hobart, Alderman Rob Valentine and other distinguished guests.

These activities were supported by members from the Australian Federation Guard, No 5 Wing AAFC, No 29 Squadron, the RAAF Association of Tasmania, a fly past by Hawks from No's 76 and 79 Squadrons

Additionally, No 29 Squadron (City of Hobart ) exercised its right to Freedom of the City on the weekend. This certainly gave Hobart plenty of Air Force activity for the weekend, with various Air Force personnel participating, ranging from the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Geoff Shepherd, Wing Commander Charles Hill, Commanding Officer of No 29 Squadron and members of 29 SQN, retired members including Air Vice-Marshals Peter Scully and Roxley McLennan, through to Australian Air Force cadets from No 5 Wing.
