14 September 2005

On 13 September 2005 family members of the crew of RAAF Lancaster PB290 joined representatives from the RAAF and the Australian Embassy in Berlin for a military funeral service at Hanover War Cemetery, Germany, honouring the memory of men whose lives were lost serving their country in 1944.

Lancaster PB290 took off from Royal Air Force Base (RAF) Waddington on 6 December 1944 on a bombing mission against the German town of Geissen to the north of Frankfurt. The Lancaster had a crew of seven -- six RAAF from No 463 Squadron and one Royal Air Force (RAF) crew member.
