Exercise Pacific Airlift Rally in Thailand

Approximately 20 personnel from both the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and Australian Regular Army (ARA), were among participants from 17 nations that attended the Pacific Airlift Rally 2005 (PAR05) at the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) Udon Thani Air Base, in August 2005.

The Australian detachment included personnel from 37 Squadron (37SQN), 86 Wing (86WG), Headquarters Air Command (HQAC), 395 Expeditionary Combat Support Wing (395ECSW), the Australian Embassy, Bangkok and 176 Air Despatch Squadron (176AD SQN). The 37SQN contingent included British Flight Sergeant (FSGT) Loadmaster Michael Childs, who is attached to 37SQN on the Longlook exchange program.

PAR05 is a biennial multilateral activity, sponsored by Headquarters Pacific Air Force (HQ PACAF), Hawaii. The activity is designed to promote interoperability by the exchange of humanitarian airlift, air-land and airdrop delivery techniques. Additionally, it promotes regional stability through unity of purpose in coalition building and international cooperation.
While PACAF sponsored the symposium, Australia has been welcomed as a major participant in its planning and conduct since its inception.

The participating countries involved include, Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tonga and the United States.
