24 August 2005
Approximately
20 personnel from both the Royal Australian
Air Force (RAAF) and Australian Regular Army
(ARA), were among participants from 17 nations
that attended the Pacific Airlift Rally 2005
(PAR05) at the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) Udon
Thani Air Base, in August 2005.
The Australian detachment included personnel
from 37 Squadron (37SQN), 86 Wing (86WG), Headquarters
Air Command (HQAC), 395 Expeditionary Combat
Support Wing (395ECSW), the Australian Embassy,
Bangkok and 176 Air Despatch Squadron (176AD

Flight Sergeant (FSGT) Loadmaster Michael Childs,
who is attached to 37SQN on the Longlook exchange
program.
PAR05 is a biennial multilateral activity, sponsored
by Headquarters Pacific Air Force (HQ PACAF),
Hawaii. The activity is designed to promote
interoperability by the exchange of humanitarian
airlift, air-land and airdrop delivery techniques.
Additionally, it promotes regional stability
through unity of purpose in coalition building
and international cooperation.
While PACAF sponsored the symposium, Australia
has been welcomed as a major participant in
its planning and conduct since its inception.
The participating countries involved include,
Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Fiji, India,
Indonesia, Japan, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mongolia,
Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand,
Tonga and the United States.
