Anzac Day dawn service, Security Detachment in Baghdad

25 April 2005

One of Australia's most significant national events, Anzac Day, is commemorated each year on 25 April to mark the anniversary of the landings on Gallipoli, Turkey, in 1915, by Australian and New Zealand forces. Anzac Day commemorations are mostly organised by veterans and community groups, and have special significance for Australian Defence Force (ADF) members deployed overseas. ADF members serving in the Middle East under Operation CATALYST, the rehabilitation of Iraq, and Operation SLIPPER, Australia's contribution to the war against terrorism, conducted Anzac Day ceremonies with the invited participation of other national contingents.
