Exercise Arnhem 04

The capability of the Australian Defence Force’s long range parachute drops was tested with the Third Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (3 RAR) conducting one of its main annual airborne exercises.

More than 120 Defence personnel are taking part in Exercise Arnhem 04, which runs until 25 May and includes activity at Holsworthy Barracks, RAAF Richmond and Singleton Range. Exercise Arnhem 04 tests the ability of 3 RAR and supporting units to deploy the Parachute Company Group (PCG.) It included exercises using live ammunition and explosives within the Singleton Range.

Beginning on the afternoon of 18 May, about 120 paratroopers from 3 RAR PCG parachuted into the Singleton Range. Aircraft conducted one low-level parachute drop every day until 21 May. A live fire exercise involving artillery, mortars and RAAF F-111C aircraft was scheduled to run from 20 to 22 May.
