Exercise Sea Lion begins

04 March 2004

More than 500 Royal Australian Navy, Army and Royal Australian Air Force personnel are on the move to Cowley Beach, north of Townsville, to participate in the first of the Australian Defence Force’s amphibious training exercises for the year, Exercise Sea Lion. The three-week-long exercise, which runs until 19 March, is part of the Australian Defence Force’s ongoing efforts to improve its amphibious capability for the defence of Australia.

Exercise Sea Lion will involve HMA Ships Tobruk, Labuan, Brunei and Tarakan, the Primary Casualty Reception Facility and elements from 3 Brigade, 10 Force Support Battalion and 5 Aviation Regiment.

The exercise will focus on the planning and conduct of amphibious operations. It will exercise the different services of the ADF in working in a joint environment to develop and refine procedures for the ADF's amphibious capability.
