Ex HMAS Brisbane handover

27 July 2004

Hand over of the Royal Australian Navy's last guided missile destroyer, ex HMAS Brisbane, to the Queensland Government occured on 13 July 2004. The Minister for Defence, Senator Robert Hill officially handed over the ex-HMAS Brisbane to Queensland Premier Mr Peter Beattie. The Federal Member for Fisher, Mr Peter SLIPPER MP and Maritime Commander Australia, Rear Admiral Rowan Moffitt, (former commanding officer of the ship), also attended. Brisbane gave 34 years' of service to the RAN and served in both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars.
