RAAF BASE WILLIAMTOWN TO INCREASE FLYING ACTIVITY

RAAF Base Williamtown will increase flying activity until 10 September in support of OPERATION DELUGE, the Australian Defence Force commitment to the Australian Government’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

The Base Commander at RAAF Base Williamtown, Wing Commander Wal Mazzoni, acknowledges the increase in aircraft noise may be inconvenient, but thanks the public for their support.

“This forum will see leaders from 21 countries converge on Sydney, which ultimately requires an increase in security procedures,” WGCDR Mazzoni said.

“The Government has tasked aspects of the Air Force with providing some of this support and I would like to thank the local community in advance for their understanding.

“Flying is expected to be conducted around the clock during these dates, with no specified timings available.

“In supporting the Government during this time, we are also protecting Australia’s national interests. Our personnel have been working hard to prepare for this occasion and will be contributing to a safe and successful outcome.”

Members of the community seeking further information on the RAAF Base Williamtown flying program during this time can call 1800 033 200, which will be updated where possible given the security constraints.
