FATAL VEHICLE ACCIDENT - DILI

A Timor national has died when the motorcycle he was riding collided with an International Security Force vehicle in Dili on Friday afternoon.

An initial investigation has indicated that the motorcycle appeared to have crossed into the path of the International Stabilisation Force vehicle and, despite the actions of the driver of the vehicle to avoid the motorcycle, it collided with the vehicle.

The accident occurred on the road between the Dili Airport and the ISF base at Chauvel Barracks.

The International Stabilisation Force soldiers immediately called for medical assistance and provided first aid to the injured Timorese national, including the dispatch of specialist military medical staff located nearby.

United Nations Police attended the scene, and a civilian ambulance took the injured Timorese national to a civilian hospital, where he subsequently died.

The International Stabilisation Force regrets the loss of life in this tragic event and extends its condolences to the family of the deceased man.

No International Stabilisation Force troops were injured in the accident.

An initial investigation by the International Stabilisation Force has been completed in accordance with routine procedures.

The United Nations’ Police, who attended the accident, are conducting an independent traffic investigation.
