ENHANCING COMMAND AND CONTROL SUPPORT FOR AIR OPERATIONS
The
Defence Materiel Organisation has acquired new technology that will enhance the
Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF) management and scheduling of its flying
units.
A contract for the Unit Level Tool for Resource Allocation (ULTRA) was
signed on 3 October by Wayne Ryan, Director General Command and Support Systems
of the Defence Materiel Organisation and Moshe Meydan,
Managing Director of Meydan Group and Ocean Software
Pty Ltd. The system will be implemented as a component of project JP2030 Phase
7B (Air Command Support System) and is expected to be fully operational by the
end of March 2008. The contract with Australian company Ocean Software Pty Ltd was awarded
following an open tender process. ULTRA is a tailored version of the company's FlightPro product which will be modified
to interface with other Defence systems. FlightPro
is currently utilised by the Air Force Training Group and by foreign Air
Force establishments. The project will commence
immediately and early work will include achieving important interfaces to the
Air Command Support System and to Defence's personnel
management information system. Further
enhancements will ensure that ULTRA can be implemented across the Defence
classified information network.
