CLARIFICATION OF ADF INVOLEMENT IN TIMOR LESTE ARREST

The ADF wishes to clarify its involvement in events surrounding the arrest of Mr Lobato.

The ADF did not arrest Mr Lobato as suggested in some media reports.

ADF personnel have been providing security at Mr Lobato’s home for the past 24-36 hours, and they were still in attendance when prosecutors arrived. Upon request from the Timor Leste authorities, the ADF also provided armed protection for the prosecutors, as we have on other occasions.

The arrest of Mr Lobato was effected by the Timor Leste authorities and remains a matter for them.
