SABRE THE TIGER GAINS EXTRA STRIPES

The 5th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (5 RAR) has long been known as the ‘Tiger Battalion’, and since 1967 has had a Tiger as its mascot. A unit’s mascot is enlisted in the Army and can be promoted like any other soldier.

As part of the promotion, a static vehicle display of Armoured Personnel Carriers and an interactive display of infantry weapons will be held at the park from 9.00am to 4.00pm.
Sabre is the third official mascot of 5 RAR ‘Tiger Battalion’. He was officially enlisted as a Private in the Army, and the Battalion's mascot, on 3 December 2003 by former Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Peter Leahy.
