Background

Exercise TALISMAN SABRE 05: Exercise TALISMAN SABRE 05 is a combined US/Australian exercise involving more than 17,000 personnel from Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine and Special Forces units. The exercise commences on June 12, with a troop build-up now nearing completion in Rockhampton and Townsville and Fleet concentration occurring in the Coral Sea.

TALISMAN SABRE’s primary aim is to conduct collective training and exercise inter-operability between Australian and US forces. Based on fictional scenarios, the exercise will include combined Special Forces operations, parachute drops, amphibious landings, artillery and infantry manoeuvres, air combat training and advanced maritime operations.

USS BLUE RIDGE: USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) is the Flagship of the United States Seventh Fleet. She operates from Yokosuka, Japan as part of the U.S. Navy's forward deployed Naval Forces, and provides Vice Admiral Greenert, as the Fleet Commander, with the highest possible command and control capabilities for maritime and theatre-level operations during peacetime or conflict.

USS Blue Ridge is 620 feet long, weighs 18,500 tons and has a crew of 52 Officers and 790 enlisted ranks.
