DEFENCE CHIEF WELCOMES FBT REPORTING CHANGES
The Chief of the Defence Force, Admiral Chris Barrie, today welcomed
the Government's announcement that Australian Defence Force housing will
be exempt from Fringe Benefit Tax reporting requirements.
“I am pleased that the Government has recognised the unique circumstances
of ADF service following the review announced by Minister Scott in Parliament
last week,” Admiral Barrie said.
“Our men and women in uniform have a special burden placed on them to
serve wherever, whenever the Government demands and should not be disadvantaged
for their hard work in often difficult conditions to maintain Australia's
security.
“The decision to exempt housing assistance will address the primary
concerns of ADF families about the effect on take home pay due to loss
of Government benefits and increased payments such as child support.
“Like all Australian taxpayers, ADF personnel should have allowances
that are consistent with the rest of the community reported on their Group
Certificates.
“There is still work being done on the reporting arrangements of other
ADF benefits. I look forward to being able to give ADF personnel more
comprehensive information in coming weeks.” Admiral Barrie said.
