DEFENCE FURTHER DEVELOPS ITS DEFENCE/INDUSTRY RELATIONS IN THE COMMAND, CONTROL, COMMUNICATIONS AND INTELLIGENCE AREA

An Environmental Working Group (EWG) of the Capability Development Advisory Forum (CDAF) has called for greater involvement by Australian companies producing command, control, communications and intelligence (C³I) equipment.

The Director-General of the C³I Development, Brigadier Tim McKenna, said after the first meeting of the revamped C³I Research Group in Canberra last week (Jul 29) that he intends it to become a highly successful Defence/Industry body within Australia.

He said the C³IRF (as the Research Group is known) has a membership of 34 companies and seven Defence organisations.

“We hope that other companies looking for C³I opportunities to increase their Defence business through collaborative research in the area will join us,” BRIG McKenna said.

The C³IRF is currently chaired by Mr Greg Royle from CSC Australia.

“The body has an established secretariat supplied by the Australian Electrical & Electronic Manufacturers Association Ltd (AAEMA) who look after C³IRF membership and meetings,” BRIG McKenna said.

“The C³IRF has quarterly 'forum' meetings in Canberra and has established sub-committee research groups which meet on a regular basis in the areas of secure communications, networks, information management and dissemination, fusion of data and information, and organisational change and research.”

“The research groups are the primary vehicles established to meet to meet the C³IRF and now CDAF/EWG mission which is: To enhance Defence and industry capabilities by facilitating increased Defence/Industry research collaboration in the areas of Command control, Communications and Intelligence (C³I) from concept through to live-cycle support.”

The Capability Development Advisory Forum (CDAF) is an initiative of the Defence and Industry Strategic Policy Statement launched last year. Its purpose is to provide a conduit for industry to put forward its views early in the capability development process and to enable Defence to test the strength of its capability proposals.
