Defence Experts to Talk About Business OpportunitiesThe Australian Defence Acquisition Organisation (DAO) today launched its new Web Site, providing a major boost to its objective of strengthening business links with the Defence Force and with Industry, to achieve the best capabilities for the Australian Defence Force. The new Web Site can be found at http://www.defence.gov.au/dmo/. The Site provides quick and easy access to details of Defence acquisition projects, policies and points of contact, as well as business opportunities and up-to-the-minute news of interest to the Australian and international Defence-Industry community. "Our new Internet Site improves communication and information flow regarding DAO's role in supporting Australia's combat forces, and is an important initiative in strengthening linkages with Industry", said Deputy Secretary Acquisition, Mr Garry Jones. "Not only does it get our message out quickly to relevant players, but it also serves as a one-stop-shop for a range of public information provided by the DAO", he said. As the Defence organisation focuses on its core business, it increasingly looks to Industry to meet a wider range of Defence needs. Sustainable and competitive Australian defence-related industries are a fundamental component of Australia's national security. DAO's acquisition of systems and equipment is big business. It manages Defence's largest area of expenditure, coordinating almost 200 high-tech projects worth nearly $40 billion across 12 technology/industry sectors. Each year it spends over $2.5 billion, and what it buys forms the backbone of the Australian Defence Force. Procurement of new military equipment is also a particularly complex task and one that is often deliberately beyond the leading edge of current technology. The Australian Defence Force relies on the DAO to deliver quality, value for money equipment and systems, which meet critical needs on time, and within budget. This is fundamentally important to Australia's defence capability. With pressures on resources and increasing technology costs, the DAO continually seeks new and innovative ways to deliver more combat-ready capability for every dollar. The new DAO Web Site contributes to a more effective business environment for delivery of Defence acquisition projects. This will enhance the DAO's reputation as a progressive, professional organisation and a world leader in acquisition management best practice. Web Site development and redesign was undertaken by EDIME Internet Agency, of Canberra.
