NEW LOOK TO THE CHIEF OF DEFENCE FORCE PARADE
The latest intake of 1,055 Australian Defence Force Academy cadets will
mark the completion of their initial military training at a new look Chief
of Defence Force parade at the Academy on Saturday, 27 February. The parade
of Officer Cadets and Midshipmen and 45 military staff will be reviewed
by the Chief of the Defence Force, Admiral Chris Barrie AO, RAN.
Commandant of the Academy, Commodore Brian Adams, said the 1999 parade
would look quite different, reflecting the changes now underway at ADFA.
"Military officers will, for the first time, join the Officer Cadets
and Midshipmen for whom they are responsible on the parade ground and
the generic academy ceremonial dress will be replaced by members wearing
their single service uniform," CDRE Adams said.
"By parade members wearing their respective service ceremonial uniform,
we are demonstrating that, although we are a tri-service institution,
we are still committed to producing officers trained for their single
services." he said.
CDRE Adams said the structure of the Parade would also reflect the significant
changes that have been made to the organisation of cadets within the Academy.
"The second and third year officer cadets will march in their Navy,
Army and Air Force squadrons but first year cadets will march in their
mixed service squadrons," he said.
NEWS EDITORS/CHIEFS OF STAFF: Media wishing to attend the parade
should contact Heather Crosling on 0409 476 920 and should assemble at the
parade ground at ADFA by 9.15 am on Saturday. The entrance to ADFA is off
Northcott Drive. The ceremony is expected to end by 10.45.
