Army's Australia Day 1999 Honours List

Thirty-one members of the Australian Army will be recognised for their outstanding service in this year's Australia Day Honours list.

Major General Peter Dunn AM, originally from Ballarat and now residing in the Canberra, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his work in the field of Land Force Development, as the Military Head of the Defence Efficiency Review Secretariat and as Head of the Defence Personnel Executive.

Colonel Wayne Bowen, SC, from Queensland, Brigadier Neil Graham from Hampton in Victoria, Lieutenant Colonel David Morrison from Queensland and Brigadier Jeffrey Wilkinson have all been recognised as Members of the Order of Australia (AM). Brigadier Wilkinson received his award for his achievements as the Commander of the Logistics Support Force and as the Commander of the Monitoring Group on Bougainville.

Of the seven recipients of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM), Major Andrew Pedrazzini of the ACT received his award for standardising the design, implementation and operational procedures for the ADF's computer networks.

The Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC), was awarded to eleven recipients including Lieutenant Colonel Norman Cognet of Ferny Grove, Queensland for coordinating drought relief operations in Papua New Guinea. Warrant Officer Class One, Lawrence Mountain of Lane Cove, NSW, also received the award for outstanding achievement as a member of the Australian Army Contingent operating within the United Nations Accelerated De-mining Program in Mozambique.

There were nine Army recipients of the Conspicuous Service Medal (CSM) including Major Gavin Barwick, serving with the Australian Embassy in Washington, who successfully coordinated the amalgamation of the 6th and 7th Brigades into the 7th Task Force. Major Charles Shaw of Highgate, Western Australia, also received this award for contributing significantly to the success of the Truce Monitoring Group in Bougainville by providing daily briefs and assessments to the Commander and Chief of Staff of the Group.

In addition, the Australian Army's Principal Chaplain John Butler and Professor Karl Rieckmann, Director of the Army Malaria Institute, were both recognised as Members of the Order of Australia (AM).
