New Army Website Comes On-line
The new improved Army website, which comes on line on Monday December
14, is designed to be a "one stop shop" for current information
on the Australian Army, it's history, it's service to the community and
the variety of career opportunities the Army offers.
Captain Rick Dawson, project manager, says that the newly designed website
is first and foremost user friendly. "It's for those sorts of people
whose time is important. There are no heavy graphics, the layout is simple
and the navigation techniques are specifically designed to allow the user
to find the information they require, quickly and easily – basically it's
fast and efficient and combines all the best features of commercial sites"
Captain Dawson says.
The existing site has had little development since its inception in
1996 and, while it was adequate, it needed to be updated to keep in line
with the rapid developments in website technology.
The new website also includes a greater choice for those with time to
browse.
It will incorporate a range of new sections including What's New, Events,
Gallery, Fact Sheets, Publications, Profile, all cross referenced and
with immediate access. Later additions to the new website will include
a Competition section and a Game section.
Captain Dawson says that the main reason for the re- design of the Army
website is to provide the public at large with the opportunity to "experience
the Army through the Web. "It's got something for everyone from the
serious 'Defence buff' right through to the occasional browser and the
more serious net surfer", Captain Dawson says.
