Principal Appointed for new Australian Defence College in Canberra

Air Vice Marshal Brendan O’Loghlin Air Vice Marshal Brendan O’Loghlin has been appointed as the Principal of the new Australian Defence College (ADC) in Canberra.

AVM O’Loghlin, who was until recently the Head of the Australian Defence Staff (HADS) in Washington, will be the first Principal of the ADC.

The ADC is a new institution. Its role is the education and development of senior Defence personnel from Australia and overseas. ADC courses will emphasise the development of advanced policy making, leadership and strategic decision making skills needed to understand and operate effectively in Asia and the Pacific.

The Head of Defence’s Joint Education and Training Organisation, Rear Admiral John Lord, welcomed AVM O’Loghlin’s appointment.

He said that AVM O’Loghlin was well qualified to lead and build the new institution so that it took its place as the pre-eminent education institution in Defence and Strategic Studies in the Asia Pacific region, as well as a major provider of education services to Defence.

RADM Lord said that the opening of the new college, in early 1999, would be the beginning of a new era in Defence education and training. A key role of the college will be to develop strategic linkages with Australian and overseas institutions to support the delivery of its education services to Defence.

With his extensive experience in Defence, both in Australia and overseas, including his distinguished career in the Air Force and his recent appointment as HADS Washington, AVM O’Loghlin brings a wealth of experience and expertise in long term strategic planning and the development of important high level relationships, both in Australia and internationally.

A biography for AVM O’Loghlin is attached.
