MINISTER LAUNCHES DEFENCE INDUSTRY EXPORT INTERNET SITE
The Minister for Defence Industry, Science and Personnel, Bronwyn Bishop, launched the Australian Defence Community Internet Site at a ceremony on HMAS MELBOURNE at Garden Island Dockyard in Sydney today.
"The Australian Defence Community internet site is a great way to present our country's world class defence industry to potential customers across the globe." Mrs Bishop said.
"This site is the product of the Department of Defence and several major defence companies working closely together with the contractor, the Internet Reach Group, to promote defence exports and materiel cooperation internationally in a 'Team Australia' fashion."
"It is another demonstration of the effective cooperative partnership between the Government and industry, particularly in the important area of defence exports, which in turn strengthens our defence and industry capabilities in Australia."
The Government's support for exports was further demonstrated when the Minister announced she would be leading Australia's largest ever Defence industry mission to the United Kingdom at the beginning of September. 26 Australian companies will be taking part in the mission.
On the subject of the internet, the Minister said: "The number of people and businesses connected to the internet around the world is increasing exponentially. This is what makes the internet highly relevant to Australia as a trading and exporting nation."
"This Government already recognises the opportunities that the internet
provides", Mrs Bishop, who has her own home page, added. "I believe
it is a great way of keeping people informed about issues related to my
Ministerial responsibilities."
"Still in its infancy, perhaps the most exciting aspect of the ADC
Internet Site as an international marketing tool, is that truly the best
is yet to come. The notion of a global 24-hour-a-day virtual trade show,
and ongoing display of Australia's technical base and products in a three
dimensional environment is only a few short years away." Mrs Bishop
said.
