SATELLITE NAVIGATION SYSTEM INTERFERENCE TRIALS

Public feedback will be sought during trials next week to investigate Global Positioning System (GPS) interference at the Woomera Test Range in South Australia.

The trials, between July 15 and 17, are the second in a series organised by the Australian Defence Force and Airservices Australia to assist in the development and implementation of GPS in Australia.

Results of the trials will determine how interference might affect the implementation of GPS as a navigation aid.

A Department spokesman said the trials could affect the accuracy of GPS equipment being operated within a 450 kilometre radius of Woomera Airfield. Users are invited to supply details of any difficulties they may encounter using GPS, including the date, time, location and type of equipment. The information will support other test data and aid the planning of any future trials.
