LIVERPOOL CONTRACT TO OFFER SAVINGS

Future base support services for Sydney's Liverpool Military Area have been contracted to Australian Operational Support Services.

The contract, awarded under the Defence Commercial Support Program, is expected to save the Australian Defence Force almost $4.4 million over the next five years. It includes ground maintenance, cleaning, catering and hospitality services.

Introduced in 1992, the Commercial Support Program transfers non-core Defence activities to the civil sector where operationally feasible, practicable and cost effective.

Defence personnel affected by the new arrangement will be transferred, retrained or offered voluntary redundancy.
