Posthumous Issue to Next-of-Kin

Sometimes a veteran dies before all of his or her medals are issued. Sometimes new medals are introduced to recognise service and some of the veterans who are eligible have died. Although medals are usually only issued to the member who earned them, in these cases the Government may award unissued medals to a family member as a gesture of goodwill.

This situation is covered by the posthumous medals policy. In this instance, medals will be issued in accordance with the priority list of family members outlined in the policy.

If this situation applies to your family, please use the AD809 Application for the Posthumous Issue of Medals and/or Clasps to apply.
