Air Vice-Marshal Margaret Staib, AM, CSC
Commander Joint Logistics

Air Vice-Marshal Margaret Staib was appointed Commander Joint Logistics in January 2010 and as Australia’s Senior Defence Strategic Logistician, is accountable for the oversight and assurance of the Defence logistics capability.

In a previous posting to Joint Logistics Command, Air Vice-Marshal Staib was Director General Strategic Logistics Branch where in 2008, she led the development of the logistics contribution to the Force 2030 Defence White Paper. 

Now as Commander Joint Logistics Air Vice-Marshal Staib has carriage of implementing significant White Paper reforms that will transform Defence logistics. 

Her early career as an Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force provided Air Vice-Marshal Staib with experience in base level logistics including facilities management, stock control and provisioning and maintenance for the C130, B707 and Caribou fleets. 

Over her career, Air Vice-Marshal Staib has been able to shift her focus towards the more strategic aspects of logistics.

In 2000, Air Vice-Marshal Staib’s contribution and leadership in the field of ADF Aviation Inventory Management was recognised when she was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross. 

While her current role is very much in the ‘joint’ domain, Air Vice-Marshal Staib remains involved with the issues facing the RAAF through her membership of the Chief of Air Force Advisory Committee.

A posting with the United States Air Force at the Pentagon furthered her experience of logistics transformation, including strategic procurement initiatives with industry, supply chain integration and technology and her service was recognised with the United States Meritorious Service Medal. 

Air Vice-Marshal Staib is a graduate of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, the Australian Defence College and the Harvard Club of Australia.

She is also a graduate of the United States Marine Corps Supply Chain Executive Program at Penn State University.

Air Vice-Marshal Staib is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Member of the Australian Institute of Management. 

Air Vice-Marshal Staib holds a Bachelor of Business Studies, a Masters of Business Logistics and a Masters of Arts in Strategic Studies.

In January 2009, Air Vice-Marshal Staib was appointed as a Member in the Military Division of the Order of Australia.

As the Director of Logistics Support Agency - Air Force and Director General Strategic Logistics, Joint Logistics Command, Air Vice-Marshal Staib was commended for exceptional service to the Royal Australian Air Force and Australian Defence Force in the field of logistics strategic planning.

Prior to her return to Joint Logistics Command, Air Vice-Marshal Staib spent a rewarding year as Commandant of the Australian Defence Force Academy.

Air Vice-Marshal Margaret Staib is a senior female leader in the Royal Australian Air Force and as such, is interested in the future direction of women in the Australian Defence Force.

Air Vice-Marshal enjoys spending time with her fourteen-year-old twins, Alexandra and Lachlan, and catching up with friends.
