First Assistant Secretary Information Communications Technology Reform

Mr Lines was appointed as First Assistant Secretary Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Reform in January 2010. He is responsible for delivering the ICT reform and savings across the Australian Department of Defence as part of the overall Defence Strategic Reform Program. In addition to the coordination of the overall reform stream, Mr Lines is responsible for the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Group change process and delivering three of the key CIO reform projects; JP29047, Central Processing and Distributed Computing Bundles.

Prior to his appointment to head up the ICT Reform Program, Mr Lines served as the Head of the Defence Imagery and Geospatial Organisation (DIGO). His responsibilities included the provision of intelligence in support of Government and Australian Defence Force (ADF) activities, the provision of geospatial support to the ADF, including mapping and targeting, and support to agencies involved in security activities. In addition, as Director DIGO, he was responsible for the Coordination of Geospatial Capability and the management of geospatial information and hand held imagery across Defence.

Prior to his appointment as Director DIGO he served for eight months as Director Defence Signals Directorate (DSD) and previously served as both the Deputy Director Capability and Deputy Director Intelligence in DSD. Mr Lines has also worked in the Defence Intelligence Organisation as Assistant Secretary Analytical Services, where he held responsibility for intelligence production and coordination, customer relations, collection liaison, information services, security and information technology.
