WOFF-AF John J Millar
Warrant Officer of the Air Force
WOFF John J Millar (JJ) was born on 29 June 1964 in Medang, Papua New Guinea. After leaving school in December 1979, to undertake an apprenticeship as a Fitter, Turner and Machinist, Warrant Officer Millar worked as a tradesman with various companies before enlisting into the Royal Australian Air Force.
WOFF Millar enlisted into the Royal Australian Air Force in July 1988, as a direct entry tradesman, General Fitter. After completing recruit training at Number 1 Recruit Training Unit (1RTU), WOFF Millar was posted to No 5 SQN RAAF Base Fairbairn.
With the disbandment of 5 SQN, WOFF Millar was posted to No 34 SQN RAAF Base Fairbairn. During 1994 WOFF Millar successfully completed Military Skills Instructor (MSI) selection and training and was posted to 1RTU in December of that year on promotion to Corporal. As a recruit instructor he was awarded a Commander Training Command Commendation for dedication and professionalism to duty as a MSI. In 1998 WOFF Millar returned to his primary trade and was posted to Defence Section RAAF Base Fairbairn as the NCOIC Armoury.
In January 2001 WOFF Millar was promoted to Sergeant and posted to the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA), once again as a MSI. In June 2003 WOFF Millar applied for remuster to Warrant Officer Disciplinary (WOD) and in September 2003 after successfully completing WOD selection and training he was posted to No 386 Expeditionary Combat Support Squadron (ECSS) at RAAF Base Richmond. In May 2004, WOFF Millar deployed to the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO) in support of Australian C-130 aircraft. On return from the MEAO he was posted to Airfield Defence Wing RAAF Base Amberley. In 2006 he again deployed to the MEAO this time in support of the Australian AP-3C Orion aircraft.
In January 2007 WOFF Millar was posted to Combat Support Group (CSG) as the Group WOFF. In November of 2007 WOFF Millar was one of the initial cadre of Warrant Officers to remuster into the newly formed Executive Warrant Officer mustering. After which he remained at Combat Support Group as the Executive WOFF, where he was the senior Airman of the Group directly responsible to Commander CSG tasked with high level managerial and representational duties.
WOFF Millar was appointed Warrant Officer of the Air Force on 16 December 2008. WOFF-AF is appointed to advise and assist the Chief of Air Force and Commanders on the morale, worklife and general well being of the enlisted airmen of the Royal Australian Air Force. WOFF-AF is the only enlisted member of the Air Force's Senior Leadership Team.
WOFF Millar is married to Di, they have one daughter who is married to a serving member and they have two children. WOFF Millar enjoys horse riding and spending time with his family and especially his grand children.
