Defence Logistics Transformation Program

The DLTP Infrastructure Project is delivering new (or refurbished) facilities to modernise the Defence logistics network. The Infrastructure Project includes purpose-built facilities and other infrastructure to enhance the wholesale storage and distribution and land materiel maintenance functions. The resultant facilities will improve support to Australian Defence Force (ADF) operations by enabling more efficient, effective and safe work practices to be implemented. The infrastructure Project will also make substantial contributions to the logistics reform stream savings.

Construction is complete at Moorebank (NSW), and is underway at RAAF Base Amberley (QLD), Lavarack Barracks (Townsville, QLD), Robertson Barracks (Darwin, NT), RAAF Base Edinburgh (SA), East Bandiana (VIC), and at HMAS Stirling and Palmer Barracks (WA).

Key Facts

  • The majority of facilities across the existing wholesale logistics network are more than 40 years old, many dating back to World War II. These facilities no longer support the efficient or effective delivery of wholesale logistics services to the Australian Defence Force.
  • Community forums were held in Moorebank, Townsville and Darwin in mid 2012 to allow interested stakeholders the opportunity to learn more about the project and to raise any concerns about the proposed infrastructure works.
  • At the peak of construction, employment at the national level will be higher by up to 6,000 jobs.
