As an applicant you must demonstrate that you are able to satisfy the requirements of the advertised position. You will benefit from time spent on some basic research and planning before submitting your application. We recommend that you:
The selection criteria provides the basis for short-listing applicants for further consideration. It is important that you address each criterion thoroughly and succinctly and only include information that is relevant to the position. Under each criterion you should outline your skills and abilities and cite relevant experience, qualifications and key examples of your work performance. It is important that you address the criterion clearly and avoid waffling. In some cases, the application process may only require you to send through your current resumé and not actually formally address the selection criteria. In such cases the panel will short-list applicants based on relevant skills and experience and applicants will be assessed on the selection criteria during assessment.
For almost every ongoing vacancy advertised within the I&S Group, five out of the six selection criteria are based on the core capabilities set out in the APS Integrated Leadership System (PDF). For DSD positions, these selection criteria are based on the DSD People Capability Framework (PDF). It is recommended that you refer to these documents when formulating your responses to the selection criteria.

After the application closing date, a selection panel will convene to assess each application. Applicants who present satisfactory claims may be short-listed for further assessment. Assessment techniques and tools can vary and may include:
Please note that selection may be based solely on application and referee checks. For more information on assessment panels and methods, see Assessment Methods.
Applicants are to provide the names and contact details of two referees who can provide comments on their work performance against the selection criteria. Ideally, one referee should be your current immediate supervisor. The selection panel may contact referees at any stage during the assessment process. The selection panel may also wish to contact people who you did not provide as a referee. In these situations, your permission will be requested prior to any contact being made. Written referee reports are not required to be submitted with your application unless specifically requested in the documentation.
The closing date for applications will be advised in the position advertisement. It is important that your application is received at the specified address by the closing date. Acceptance of late applications is at the discretion of the selection panel chair and permission for a late submission should be sought prior to the vacancy closing.
All applicants will be advised of the outcome of the selection process as early as possible. Unsuccessful applicants are welcome to contact the selection coordinator for post-assessment feedback.
