Senator Johnston asked the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 13 August 2009:
- As at 30 June 2009: (a) how many uniformed staff are there in each of the three service areas (i.e. army, navy and air force); and (b) how many civilian staff are there in each of the service areas.
- For the period 1 January to 30 June 2009, how many uniformed personnel were recruited to each of the service areas.
- For the period 1 January to 30 June 2009: (a) how many uniformed staff resigned from each of the service areas; and (b) how many civilian staff resigned from each of the service areas.
- For the period 1 January to 30 June 2009, how many temporary civilian positions existed, or were created, in the department.
- For the period 1 January to 30 June 2009, how many civilian employees have been employed on contract.
